Combigan is used as ophthalmic solution for the eye drops. It is used to treat open angle glaucoma and high pressure in the eyes. There are usually no symptoms of glaucoma. This ophthalmic solution contain combination of Brimonidine and Timolol, in concentrations of 0.2% and 0.5% respectively. Elevated IOP is considered the only regulating risk factor in the development of glaucoma. Brimonidine exerts its ocular hypotensive effect by decreasing aqueous humor production and increasing flow of aqueous humor from anterior chamber to the anterior chamber angle other than trabecular mesh in the outflow, while timolol acts by reducing aqueous humor production. Combigan eye drops is not recommended to the patients with the issue of reactive airway disease including bronchial asthma, a history of bronchial asthma, severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, sinus bradycardia, secondary or third degree atrioventricular block, overt cardiac failure, cardiogenic shock, age less than 2 years, and hypersensitivity to any component of Combigan.
The maintenance of gap between the dosages should be proper and as directed. For adults and children 2 years of age and older, one drop in the affected eye or eyes two times a day, at least 12 hours apart. In case of missing a dose of the eye drops, apply it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. It should not be used in frequent dosage to make up for the missed dose.
